The Asia Cup 2025 final between India and Pakistan not only brought thrilling cricket but also powerful off-field statements. After guiding India to victory, skipper Suryakumar Yadav made a heartwarming announcement that earned him immense respect. He declared that he would be donating his entire match fee from the tournament to the Indian Armed Forces and to the families affected by the Pahalgam terror attack, which had tragically taken the lives of 26 citizens.
In his message on social media, Suryakumar said, “I have decided to donate my match fees from this tournament to support our Armed Forces and the families of the victims who suffered from the Pahalgam terror attack. You always remain in my thoughts. Jai Hind.” This decision meant he would be donating Rs 28 lakh, as each Indian player earns Rs 4 lakh per T20I match, and he had played seven matches during the tournament. His patriotic gesture was widely praised and set an example of solidarity and responsibility.

Salman Agha’s Controversial Remarks
Following Suryakumar’s announcement, Pakistan’s T20I captain Salman Agha also came forward with a statement during the post-match press conference. However, his words created a storm of controversy. Referring to India’s precision strikes known as Operation Sindoor, which were carried out by the Indian Armed Forces to eliminate terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after the Pahalgam attack.
Agha said, “We, as a team, the whole team, we are donating our match fees to our civilians and our children who were affected in the Indian attack that happened (Operation Sindoor). We are all donating this to them.” His remarks directly linked the team’s donation to India’s military action, framing it as an attack on Pakistan’s civilians. This political angle made his comments highly sensitive. Reports suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to file an official complaint against Agha, viewing the statement as not just controversial but political in nature.
Reactions and Aftermath
The controversy deepened as Agha also commented on the trophy presentation drama, defending Asian Cricket Council and Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who had walked away with the trophy after India did not accept it from him. In his words, “If you don’t accept the trophy from the ACC president, how will you get it?”
Such remarks added fuel to an already tense post-final atmosphere. According to a Jagran.com report, BCCI insiders believe Agha’s statement could break the Code of Conduct and draw international attention because of its political undertones. While Suryakumar’s gesture was seen as an act of compassion and patriotism, Agha’s statement has left Pakistan cricket under scrutiny, as the matter is now expected to escalate further on the administrative and diplomatic front.
