The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing for a significant leadership transition, but unlike in the past, this year’s decision may not involve a traditional election. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal has confirmed that the new BCCI president is likely to be chosen through a unanimous selection process, avoiding any form of contest.
The BCCI elections were officially scheduled for September 28, but according to Dhumal, the consensus among members makes it increasingly evident that there will be no need for a vote if a candidate receives complete support. This move highlights the board’s preference for unity and stability during a crucial phase for Indian cricket administration.
Rajeev Shukla as Interim President and Current Leadership Structure
Following the exit of Roger Binny, who became ineligible to hold office after crossing the age limit of 70, Rajeev Shukla has stepped in as the interim president of the BCCI. Shukla, a veteran administrator, is currently overseeing board affairs until the new president is formally decided.
Alongside him, the office-bearer panel includes Devajit Saikia as Secretary, Rohan Gauns Desai as Joint Secretary, and Prabhtej Bhatia as Treasurer. These leaders were elected earlier in the year and represent the administrative backbone of the board at present.
The timing of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the presidential announcement is notable, as both are scheduled on the same day as the final of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup in Dubai, underlining the significance of September 28 for Indian cricket.
Sponsorship Talks and Future Developments
Beyond leadership changes, the BCCI is also focused on commercial and sponsorship matters. With the exit of Dream11 as the team’s lead sponsor—due to complications arising from the new Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025—the board is actively searching for a replacement. According to Dhumal, an official announcement regarding the new sponsor can be expected within the next two to three weeks.
The sponsorship deal will play a crucial role not only in supporting the national team financially but also in shaping the brand image of Indian cricket in the coming years. The smooth resolution of both leadership selection and sponsorship negotiations is being viewed as critical for maintaining the board’s strong influence on global cricket.
