The Board of Control for Cricket in India has officially approached the Asian Cricket Council to transfer the Asia Cup trophy that India emerged victorious from after defeating Pakistan in the final match held in Dubai on September 28. In its written statement, the BCCI declared that the trophy, as the current champion, rightly belongs to India and should be immediately transferred. The communication was directed to Mohsin Naqvi, the president of ACC, who is also the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

BCCI’s demand is grounded in their assertion that the winners of the tournament should be allowed to keep the physical trophy until the next tournament is held. The request is made in the course of cricket boards’ discussions that are already underway, and BCCI has suggested they might, if needed, take the matter further. The trophy is still with the ACC until a decision about its handover is made.

“We will raise the matter at the ICC”- BCCI secretary

The BCCI has demanded the handover of the Asia Cup Trophy, which India won against Pakistan in Dubai, in a letter to the Asian Cricket Council.

“Yes, we have written to the ACC asking them that the trophy be handed over to India,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Cricbuzz on Wednesday.

“We have also informed the ACC that if it fails to comply, we will raise the matter at the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting,” he added.

The ICC meeting, which is very famous, will take place in Dubai from November 4 to 7. The deadlock concerning the Asia Cup trophy is the result of Mohsin Naqvi’s adamant position that the trophy must be presented to the winners by him, although the Indian team has clearly stated that they would not accept it from him.

The Indian team’s position is, with good reason, affected by the Pahalgam terror attack and the following Operation Sindoor – the armed conflict against Pakistan – and they have been very vocal about it during and after the Asia Cup.

After the team of Suryakumar Yadav refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, he ordered that it be stored in the ACC office in Dubai. As recently stated by Cricbuzz on October 17, the PCB chief has informed the ACC staff that the silverware can only be moved with his permission.
