BCCI Responds To Outrage Over Duleep Trophy Coverage

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally addressed the widespread criticism surrounding the absence of live coverage for the ongoing Duleep Trophy matches.

Fans had expressed strong disappointment on social media when they discovered that the prestigious domestic competition, currently being played at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, had no live telecast or streaming. Many labeled the situation “shameful” and “unacceptable,” pointing out that even smaller local leagues enjoy live broadcasting today.

Amid this growing backlash, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia clarified the board’s position. He assured supporters that the final of the Duleep Trophy, scheduled between September 11 and 15, will be broadcast live. However, he confirmed that the quarterfinals and semifinals would not have television or digital coverage, a decision that continues to disappoint a section of cricket enthusiasts.

Commitment to Domestic Cricket and Broadcast Agreements

Saikia explained that the BCCI has a standing agreement with its broadcasting partner, ensuring 100 days of domestic cricket telecast each year. This includes coverage of all major domestic tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and the Duleep Trophy final.

He emphasized that the board places great importance on India’s domestic cricket structure, especially since many contracted players, including internationals, actively participate in these tournaments.

According to Saikia, the current arrangement balances resources while still ensuring that key matches, such as finals, receive full live coverage. He reassured fans that the BCCI remains deeply committed to promoting domestic cricket and providing exposure to emerging talents, even though not every game can be broadcast live under the present agreement.

Tournament Progress and Upcoming Matches

Despite the absence of live coverage, the tournament has already produced some memorable performances. In the quarterfinals, North Zone’s Yash Dhull and Ankit Kumar scored impressive centuries, while Central Zone’s Danish Malewar, supported by Rajat Patidar and Yash Rathod, helped their team secure a semifinal spot. The competition has highlighted the depth of India’s cricketing talent, further underscoring why fans were so eager to watch these matches live.

Looking ahead, the semifinals will begin on September 4 at the CEG Ground. North Zone will clash with South Zone, while Central Zone faces West Zone, setting the stage for high-quality contests. The winners will advance to the much-anticipated final, which will finally be available for fans to watch on television.
