The ICC World Cup 2019 campaign of England completely changed once they defeated India. It was a must-win match for the hosts when they took on India at Edgbaston. After England completed a 31 run victory, India skipper Virat Kohli pointed out the dimensions of the small boundaries as one of the main reasons behind the defeat. England all-rounder Ben Stokes recently rubbished those claims.
Meanwhile, Stokes played a critical role in helping his side register a victory in the must-win game. Batting first, England pilled on the runs and put a mammoth 337 runs on the board. Johnny Bairstow scored a sublime century and in the end, Stokes toiled with the bowlers scoring 79 runs off just 54 balls.

Stokes in his book ‘Ben Stokes on fire’ talked about England’s journey in the 2019 World Cup. He also added that after their win over India, he was surprised that Virat Kohli had talked about the size of the boundaries. Stokes said that he found the complaint of Kohli very bizarre and it was the worst complaint one could ever make.
“It was weird to hear Indian captain Kohli whingeing about the size of the boundaries at the post-match presentation ceremony. I have never heard a bizarre complaint after a match. It’s actually the worst complaint ever you could ever make”, Stokes wrote in his book.

After the match Kohli had said, “The toss was vital, especially looking at the boundaries that are this short. Bizzare that it just falls in place with the boundary limitations and with a flat pitch such as this. It’s crazy that things fall in place randomly just like that. It is the first time we are experiencing this”.
“If batsmen are able to play a reverse sweep, sweep you for six on a 59-metre boundary you can’t do much as a spinner. They had to be smarter with their lines as it was difficult to contain runs with one short boundary,” he added.
