The Bengaluru City Police have clarified that no FIR has been filed against former RCB captain Virat Kohli. As per a report by News18, a complaint submitted by social activist HM Venkatesh is currently under review.

On Thursday, Venkatesh visited the Cubbon Park police station, requesting that an FIR be lodged against the 36-year-old cricketer and his RCB teammates, holding them primarily responsible for the stampede that occurred outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4.

“The complaint will be examined as part of the ongoing investigation under an already registered case,” a senior police official said (via News18).

The stampede that occurred outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday resulted in the loss of 11 lives. In response to the tragedy, Karnataka State Cricket Association secretary A Shankar and treasurer E Jairam resigned from their positions with immediate effect on Friday.

Virat Kohli Named As Key Figure In Stampede By Complainant

According to News18, the activist claimed in his complaint that Virat Kohli played the most significant role in triggering the stampede outside RCB’s home ground.

“Virat Kohli of the Bangalore RCB team is the most prominent among those who participated in such gambling and incited people to gather in a specific place and caused this tragedy. Therefore, we request you to please make Virat Kohli and his team members accused in the FIR of this tragedy and take action,” the complaint read.

RCB declared that they would provide ₹10 lakh in financial assistance to the families of those who lost their lives in the stampede. They also introduced a new initiative called the “RCB Cares” fund.

“The tragic incident in Bengaluru has deeply saddened the RCB family. As a gesture of solidarity, RCB is offering ₹10 lakh to each of the 11 victims’ families. Additionally, a fund named ‘RCB Cares’ is being launched to help injured fans. Our fans are at the core of everything we do. We stand together in this time of grief,” RCB stated on Thursday, June 5.
