In a brilliant show of batmanship, Nitish Kumar Reddy created history on Saturday by becoming the first Indian batsman to script a Test century in Australia while being at number eight. The accomplished country boy did that in front of a house full of MCG audience members during the ongoing fourth Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.

Nitish Reddy’s century was a vital contribution in terms of the match and the series, the latter of which is currently tied at 1-1. While weather is expected to turn wet in the afternoon, Reddy’s innings can keep India alive in the Test match. However, the visitors are still a long shot to avoid a loss at the MCG and will require their senior batsmen to come to the party in the second dig.

For Reddy this had to be one of the highlights of his cricketing career since he scored these 51 runs in his very first Test series. However, his best has placed him at second place in the series run, getting the list only behind Travis Head. Nitish Reddy certainly took a lot of pride in achieving a century for the team, and it surely must boost his morale as he carries on playing in the series.

Twitter reacts to Nitish Kumar Reddy’s first test hundred:

When Nitish scored his first international hundred with a boundary off Scott Boland, then almost 80,000-plus audience members rose in applause for him. Nitish also decided to celebrate by taking the helmet off and bowing down in front of the sky. His father, who watched from the stand, smiled for joy, happy to be among thousands of Indian fans in the field.

Nitish Reddy also remained instrumental on the field, as proved by his innings that indicated class, a spirit to fight, the quality of a good batsman and sheer determination. He entered the annals of Indian cricket as the third youngest Indian to score a maiden Test century in Australia. The MCG saw a special day and Nitish’s century will be etched in flames for years.
