When talent meets opportunity, history is made. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old prodigy from Bihar, stunned the cricketing world with a legendary IPL performance in Jaipur. His explosive innings cemented his name in history, proving that age is no barrier to greatness. On April 28, 2025, fans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium witnessed history in the making. Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced off against Gujarat Titans (GT), and amidst the roaring crowd, a teenager announced his arrival with pure dominance.
Rising Star in the IPL Spotlight
Vaibhav Suryavanshi didn’t just debut—he exploded onto the scene. In his previous match, he smashed a six off his first ball, but against GT, he took it to another level, hammering a 38-ball century, the fastest by an Indian in IPL history.
Growing up in Bihar, Vaibhav honed his skills playing cricket with a tennis ball in narrow lanes. His father, a school teacher, quickly recognized his exceptional timing and enrolled him in a local cricket academy. He worked his way through age-group cricket and the U-14 nationals, earning recognition from scouts who saw his potential. However, IPL 2025 became his true breakout moment, cementing his place as one of the most exciting young talents in the game.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s Reaction
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar took to X (formerly Twitter), sharing a heartfelt message along with pictures from his earlier meeting with Vaibhav in 2024. His post went viral, echoing the pride of an entire state. To recognize the historic achievement, the Bihar government awarded Vaibhav with ₹10 lakh—an encouraging step towards supporting sports talent in the state. The Chief Minister met Vaibhav and his father at 1 Anne Marg last year, predicting a bright future. That prediction has certainly come true.
The veteran politician stated, “Congratulations and best wishes to Mr. Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar, who became the youngest player (14 years) to score a century in the history of IPL. He has become a new hope for Indian cricket on the strength of his hard work and talent. Everyone is proud of him. I met Mr. Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his father in 2024 at 1 Anne Marg and at that time I wished him a bright future.
He further added, “After his brilliant performance in IPL, I also congratulated him over the phone. Mr. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a young cricketer from Bihar, will also be given an honorarium of Rs 10 lakh by the state government. I wish that Vaibhav creates new records for the Indian team in the future and brings glory to the country.”

The Match That Changed Everything
RR needed a win to stay afloat in the tournament. Chasing a stiff total of 210, the pressure was on, but no one expected what came next. Walking in to bat with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav played shots beyond his years. With fearless intent, innovative strokeplay, and mature shot selection, he demolished the GT bowling lineup.

At just 14 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi rewrote IPL history with a series of record-breaking feats. He became the youngest player to score both a half-century and a century in the tournament, cementing his status as a rising star. His 35-ball hundred against Gujarat Titans made him the fastest Indian to reach the milestone in IPL history. Partnering with Yashasvi Jaiswal, he built a 166-run stand in just 11.5 overs, dismantling the opposition’s bowling attack and delivering a performance that will be remembered for years to come. A truly sensational breakthrough for the young prodigy.
