Zimbabwe’s wicket-keeper batsman has decided to call it a day on his 17-year long international career. He will be playing his final International match on September 13 in the third ODI against Ireland in Belfast.

Brendan Taylor is regarded as one of the modern-day greats of Zimbabwean cricket. He has represented Zimbabwe in 34 Tests, 204 ODIs, and 45 T20Is, scoring 9931 runs at an average of 34.24, including 17 centuries.

The wicket-keeper batsman took to his social media accounts to announce his retirement from the game. In a heartwarming message, Brendan wrote,

“It’s with a heavy heart that I’m announcing that tomorrow is my last game for my beloved country. 17 years of extreme highs and extreme lows, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. It’s taught me to humble, to always remind myself how lucky I was to be in the position I was in for so long, to wear the badge with pride and leave everything on the field.”

Brendan Taylor further added in his statement, that when he made his debut back in 2004, his goal was to leave the team when it was in a better position. He has also thanked Zimbabwe Cricket, his family, friends, and everyone who was involved throughout his journey.

“My goal was to always leave the team in a better position as to when I first arrived back in 2004, I hope I have done that,” he wrote.

Brendan Taylor led Zimbabwe from 2011 to 2014, before taking up the responsibility again earlier this year. He was the leading run-scorer for Zimbabwe in the 2015 ICC T20 World Cup. Taylor is the third-highest run-scorer for the country across all formats.
