A 76-year-old British broadcast engineer working on the ongoing IPL 2026 matches was found unconscious in his hotel room in Mumbai on Tuesday and later passed away. Police said that Jan William Langford was taken to Bombay Hospital by hotel staff after he was discovered unresponsive, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Langford was associated with the BCCI and had been in Mumbai for IPL duties. An official from the Marine Drive police station stated that the postmortem report did not reveal anything suspicious. A case of accidental death has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

As per a News18 report, Langford had been staying at the Trident Hotel since March 24. He returned to his room on Sunday after attending the Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders match. The next day, repeated calls from the hotel reception went unanswered, prompting staff to check on him.

When they knocked on his door and received no response, they entered the room and found him unconscious. Eventually, hotel staff used a master key to unlock the room and discovered Langford lying on the floor. An in-house doctor examined him before he was rushed to the hospital.

Mumbai Indians Beat KKR by 6 Wickets

In the match, Mumbai Indians secured a comfortable six-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, powered by explosive half-centuries from former captain Rohit Sharma (78) and Ryan Rickelton (81).

Despite a history of losing their opening matches in several IPL seasons since their 2012 win over Chennai Super Kings, the five-time champions came out aggressively while chasing 221. They surpassed the target with ease, scoring 224/4 in just 19.1 overs.

Rohit, playing his first T20 game since the previous IPL, looked in excellent form, smashing 78 runs off 38 balls, including six sixes and six fours. Meanwhile, Ryan Rickelton played a dominant knock of 81 off 43 balls, hitting eight sixes and four boundaries.

He capitalized on two chances given to him and played a key role in helping Mumbai Indians secure their first two points of the season.
