Australia hammered Team India by 10 wickets in the second ODI on Sunday, March 19 at the YS Raja Reddy Stadium in Vizag. They pulled off an all-round dominating show, as the hosts failed to make an impact in the game. Team India skipper Rohit Sharma was miffed with their performance in the game.
Batting first, Team India was bowled out for a paltry 117 runs. Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers with a fifer in the innings. Sean Abbott also took three wickets, while Nathan Ellis picked two. In response, Australia chased down the target in just eleven overs. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma said,
“It is disappointing. No doubt about that. We didn’t play to our potential. Didn’t apply ourselves with the bat. We always knew that was not enough runs. It was not a 117 pitch at all. By no means. We just didn’t apply ourselves.”
“Kept losing wickets and that didn’t allow us to get the runs we wanted. Once we lost Shubman in the first over, myself and Virat got 30-35 runs quickly. But then I lost my wicket and we lost we lost a couple of wickets back to back. That put us on the back foot. It’s always tough to come back from that situation. Today wasn’t the day for us,” he added.
Mitchell Marsh has to be one of the top players going around
Mitchell Marsh has been in good form in the ongoing ODI series against Team India. He slammed 66 runs off just 36 deliveries, to put an end to India’s hopes. His opening partner Travis Head also scored fifty off 30 deliveries, with ten boundaries. Marsh smashed 81 runs in the first ODI and is the leading run-scorer so far.
“Marsh has to be one of the top players going around when it comes to power hitting. He backs himself to do that every now and then. Definitely in top 3 and 4 when it comes to power hitting,” said Rohit Sharma.
The third ODI between Team India and Australia will take place on Wednesday, March 22 at the M. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The series is leveled 1-1, heading into the decider.
