The inaugural IPL champions Rajasthan Royals (RR) seem to be in the middle of a turbulent off-field phase. Following the departure of Rahul Dravid, who served as head coach in the 2025 season, franchise CEO Jake Lush McCrum has also stepped down, according to a Tuesday report.

As reported by Cricbuzz, McCrum, an Englishman who has been closely involved with the Royals for several years in various roles, eventually rose to the position of CEO. He has personally informed fellow franchises and industry colleagues about his exit from the Jaipur-based outfit.

Dravid, who had rejoined the Royals in 2025 after completing his stint as India’s head coach post the T20 World Cup, also resigned recently. His long association with RR included serving as mentor in 2014 and 2015, and earlier as a player and captain between 2011 and 2013, during which he featured in 46 matches, scoring 1,276 runs with seven fifties.

Adding to the uncertainty, speculation continues regarding skipper Sanju Samson’s future. Reports suggested trade talks with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), though no deal was finalized.

While Samson has expressed his commitment to stay, rumours of internal divisions remain, with the dressing room reportedly split into three camps around Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Samson himself—potential contenders for the captaincy in 2026. The question of leadership remains unresolved, with differing opinions within the management.

Rajasthan Royals Finish 9th In IPL 2025 After Poor Season

Rajasthan Royals endured a disappointing campaign in IPL 2025, finishing ninth in the points tablewith just 4 winsacross the league stage. This marked a sharp decline from their earlier seasons where they had been consistent playoff contenders. Their season was marred by inconsistency in both batting and bowling, compounded by off-field uncertainties.

Captain Sanju Samson was their most dependable batter, while Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag struggled for consistency. The overseas players also failed to make a major impact, leaving the batting unit over-reliant on the Indian core. Bowling, usually a strength for RR, also faltered—Trent Boult lacked support, spinners were ineffective, and death bowling proved costly in close matches.
