Chase, Seales Shine As West Indies Level ODI Series Against Pakistan

The West Indies secured a five-wicket win over Pakistan in the second One-Day International, drawing level in the three-match series at 1-1. The match, held at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago, was affected by rain, leading to multiple interruptions and a revised target under the DLS method.

Chasing 181 in 35 overs, the hosts reached 184-5 in 33.2 overs. Roston Chase played a pivotal role, remaining unbeaten on 49 from 47 balls, which included two sixes and the decisive winning boundary. Jayden Seales was equally impressive with the ball, taking 3 wickets for just 23 runs in his seven-over spell, restricting Pakistan to 171-7 in 37 overs before the rain ended their innings.

Middle-Order Setback and Match-Winning Partnership

The West Indies’ chase began steadily but faced a setback when they slipped from 101-3 after 18 overs to 111-5 in the 24th over. Sherfane Rutherford had provided a boost with a quick 45 off 33 balls, hitting three sixes and four boundaries before being dismissed.

With the game in a delicate position, Roston Chase and Justin Greaves took charge, putting together an unbroken sixth-wicket stand worth 77 runs. Greaves contributed 26 runs off 31 deliveries, ensuring that the required run rate stayed in control. Their calm approach under pressure allowed the West Indies to cross the line with 10 balls to spare, securing an important victory after their defeat in the series opener.

Pakistan’s Batting Struggles and Rain Disruptions

Opting to bat first after losing the toss, Pakistan found it difficult to maintain momentum due to disciplined bowling from the West Indies and frequent rain delays. Hasan Nawaz continued his good form, scoring an unbeaten 36 from 30 balls after his 63 not out in the first ODI. His innings included three sixes, two of which came in the final over before rain stopped play.

Hussain Talat added 31 off 32 balls, but other batters struggled for fluency. Captain Mohammad Rizwan was dismissed lbw by Gudakesh Motie for just 16 runs from 38 balls, slowing Pakistan’s scoring rate. The visitors ended on 171-7 in 37 overs, setting a revised target for the West Indies. Pakistan had won the first ODI by the same margin of five wickets, but the West Indies’ strong all-round performance in this match has now set up an exciting series decider.
