I plierChennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium has been a host to many international and Indian Premier League (IPL) games over the years. Similarly, it has also lost many important matches due to a ban on three stands for the fans by the local authorities as it violated the rules and regulations. However, if the new reports are to be believed, there will be some respite for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as Chepauk Stadium is all set to host IPL 2020 games.
Last time around, MA Chidambaram Stadium couldn’t host the knockout games of IPL 2019 after the stadium authorities failed to open the closed stands for the fans. They had been facing some legal issues over its three stands and was closed for the fans.
Chidambaram Stadium to reopen stands for IPL 2020
The officials of the Madras Cricket Club recently met with the local authorities and the meeting went down well. The President of Madras Cricket Club, R. Ramesh, has claimed that the general meeting went well and the association will apply CMDA in order to carry out the demolition of the gym so that the stands can be reopened.
“Now we will apply to the corporation and the CMDA for permission to carry out the demolition and we are sure we will be granted that since the gym is not a part of any heritage structure,” R.Ramesh was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
“Only the two old squash courts, the billiards room and the club office, the three buildings within the MCC complex, have been declared heritage structures,” he added.Â
This will certainly boost the energy of Chennai Super Kings who are arguably the loudest and most loyal fans in the cash-rich league. The upcoming edition of the IPL will commence from March 29.
