Chris Gayle Crowns Vaibhav Suryavanshi His Successor After Record-Breaking Sixes

At just 15 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has established himself as a record-breaking phenomenon, with his explosive batting threatening several long-standing records in the IPL. The young prodigy delivered another stunning performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad, smashing 97 runs in a breathtaking knock that showcased his remarkable ability to dominate top-level bowling despite his age.

His brilliant innings also played a crucial role in helping Rajasthan Royals secure a place in Qualifier 2. During the innings, Sooryavanshi launched 12 sixes, breaking a record that had remained unbeaten for more than a decade. The youngster surpassed Chris Gayle’s tally of 59 sixes from the 2012 IPL season, taking his own count to 65 and continuing to raise the bar.

His fearless approach and effortless power-hitting have established him as one of the most dangerous batters in the tournament. He also came remarkably close to eclipsing another legendary IPL record, the fastest century. That mark is still held by Gayle, who reached three figures in just 30 balls.

Suryavanshi, however, was dismissed for 97 off only 29 deliveries, falling just short of the milestone. His departure sparked widespread discussion, with many convinced he was moments away from creating yet another piece of IPL history before his extraordinary innings came to an end.

Chris Gayle himself shared a message for Sooryavanshi, applauding the youngster’s remarkable achievement after his sensational innings on Thursday night, which helped Rajasthan Royals secure a place in the playoffs.

“What a phenomenal player Vaibhav is. Great entertainment young man! New Six machine,” Gayle wrote on X.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Record-Breaking Season Earns Him the ‘Universe Baby Boss’ Title

Suryavanshi burst onto the IPL scene last season, making an instant impact with a sensational 35-ball century that showcased his immense potential. However, the 15-year-old has taken his game to even greater heights this year. Beyond his explosive batting, what has truly impressed observers is the consistency with which he has dismantled bowling attacks throughout the tournament.

The young star currently sits atop the Orange Cap standings with 680 runs in 15 matches. He has averaged 45.33 while striking at an extraordinary rate of 242.85, figures that even many of the game’s most feared T20 hitters struggle to match. His aggressive mindset and effortless six-hitting ability have naturally drawn comparisons with Chris Gayle, the legendary “Universe Boss” who revolutionised power-hitting in T20 cricket.

As a result of his remarkable performances, fans and pundits have affectionately dubbed Suryavanshi the “Universe Baby Boss,” viewing him as the heir to Gayle’s legacy. With Rajasthan Royals chasing their second IPL crown, much of their hopes rest on the shoulders of their teenage prodigy. His form could be crucial when the Royals take on the formidable Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2.
