“Come On, Bangladesh” -Mitchell Marsh Comments Following Australia’s Defeat To Team India In The T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 Match

Australian captain Mitchell Marsh praised Bangladesh despite their 24-run loss to Team India in the T20 World Cup Super 8 match on Monday. The West Australian acknowledged that India’s bowlers were exceptional, preventing Australia from scoring boundaries.

For Australia to advance to the knockouts, Bangladesh must win their upcoming match against Afghanistan in the final Super 8 game. Bangladesh has yet to secure a win in the Super 8 and faces a confident Afghanistan, whose historic victory against Australia has revived their campaign.

In the post-match presentation, Marsh admitted that India was the better team but commended Travis Head and Glenn Maxwell for keeping Australia competitive at one point. He elaborated:

“Disappointing. It happens in the game of cricket. In the course of 40 overs, there are a lot of small margins. India were the better team, Rohit is a class player.”

“(On Head and Maxwell’s batting) Gave us more belief than hope. In a run chase like that if you keep it at 10 an over, we are in the game. India’s bowlers were too good though in the end. Come on, Bangladesh now!”

Head played a quick 76-run innings, staying in the game almost until the end, before Jasprit Bumrah deceived him with a slower ball. If Afghanistan beats Bangladesh, Australia will be eliminated.

Mitchell Marsh’s innings was cut short by a brilliant catch from Axar Patel

Marsh scored a solid 37 after David Warner was dismissed for a low score in the first over of their chase. The 32-year-old hit a six off Kuldeep Yadav in the ninth over, but Axar Patel made a perfectly timed leap to catch it one-handed.

Arshdeep Singh was the standout bowler for India with figures of 4-0-37-3. The first-ever World T20 champions will face England in the second semifinal in Guyana.
