Delhi Capitals All-Rounder Mitchell Marsh Sidelined From IPL 2024 – Reports

The Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered a significant setback as Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out for the rest of IPL 2024, as per an ESPNCricinfo report. Marsh featured in the team’s initial four matches but sat out the following four due to a hamstring injury. The 30-year-old returned home a week ago after consultations between Cricket Australia (CA) and the IPL team.

In his final match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Mitchell Marsh had a brief innings, scoring a duck off two balls and taking figures of 1/37 in three overs. He found it challenging to maintain his excellent international form, managing just 61 runs at an average of 15.25 across four matches.

The all-rounder also struggled with the ball, taking just one wicket with an average of 103 and an economy rate of nearly 13. DC managed to win only one of the four matches in which Marsh participated, as the prominent Australian player failed to deliver as anticipated.

Marsh will not be returning to India and will focus on making a full recovery in time for the T20 World Cup, commencing on June 1. He is also expected to lead the Australian team in the tournament.

Halfway into IPL 2024, Delhi Capitals are on the verge of being eliminated

Regrettably for the Delhi Capitals, their performances on the field have been notably inconsistent in IPL 2024. After ending second from the bottom last season, they currently hold the eighth position on the points table, securing only three victories in eight matches.

Following a streak of five losses in six games to kick off the season, DC managed to win two consecutive matches. However, they faced a heavy defeat against SunRisers Hyderabad in their recent match, losing by 67 runs.

With only six games remaining, they will probably need to win at least five matches to have a shot at finishing in the top four and reaching the playoffs.

Despite a strong streak of playoff qualifications from 2019 to 2021, the team has been knocked out in the group stage in the past two seasons. Rishabh Pant and his team will face the Gujarat Titans in a pivotal match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, April 24.
