CPL 2021: Auwab Kunni Scores CPL’s First Century As He Guides Cricfit Academy U-14 To Semifinals

Auwab Kunni scored the maiden century of CPL 2021 as he guided Cricfit Academy to the U-14 semifinals at the Thakur Village Cricket Stadium in Kandivali. Riding onto his brilliant knock, Cricfit defeated Happy Boys by 5 wickets to register their back to back wins.

Opting to bat first, Happy Boys made a steady start against the new ball. Openers Shreay Sarang and Ayush Makwana put the bad deliveries away to set the tone for their side. They added 123 runs for the first wicket in 15.2 overs before Shreay walked back after his 28-run knock from 46 deliveries which included three boundaries.

With less than 5 overs to go, Happy Boys shifted gears going all guns blazing against the Cricfit Academy bowlers. Ayush soon crossed his half-century before getting run out for 68 runs from 57 balls including seven fours. Harsh Aaghav bowled a brilliant final over giving away only eight runs effecting two dismissals to contain the batting side for 167 runs in their quota of 20 overs.

Chasing a steep total, Cricfit Academy suffered a massive setback losing Harsh Aaghav, who played a fine knock in the last match, only in the second ball of the innings. Since then, it was only Auwab Kunni, who smacked the balls all across the ground as the bowlers looked clueless against him. At the end of the powerplay overs, Cricfit were at 46 for one sensing a victory.

However, against the run of play, Cricfit lost Hamza Khan courtesy of a runout. But it didn’t seem to deter Kunni, who played his shots and in the process brought his fifty. He added a 65-run partnership with Aryan Babbar for the third wicket before Happy Boys struck twice to step back in the game.

Poised beautifully at the end of the 17th overs, Auwab Kunni took the game single-handedly in favour of Cricfit Academy with a match-winning century off only 65 deliveries which included eight boundaries and four towering sixes to chase down the target.

With this win, Cricfit Academy march onto the semifinals of the U-16 CPL 2021.
