The second semi-final between St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Guyana Amazon Warriors on Tuesday had a moment to savour for the cricket fans. The contest won by the Patriots who made their way to the CPL final to be played later tonight at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts. St Lucia Kings is the other team to reach the final after beating defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders in the first semifinal game.

Chris Gayle, who scored 42 off 27 balls to help his team chasing down 179 required to win the contest broke his bat in the fourth over of their run chase. Odean Smith ran in at full speed and bowled a delivery which broke Chris Gayle’s bat while he attempted at playing a shot. Simon Doull who was commentating jokingly said that the delivered clocked a speed of 155 kmph.

 

Along with Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis who was recently roped in by Rajasthan Royals scored an unbeaten 77 of just 39 balls with three fours and as many as eight sixes. Gayle’s knock also had five fours and three sixes.

St Lucia Kings Beat TKR In First Semi-Final

In the first semi-final, Trinbago Knight Riders lost to St Lucia Kings. Kieron Pollard’s side fell short by 21 runs in their quest to chase down 106 required to win, Every batsmen got starts and TKR ultimately scored 184 in their 20 overs. Pollard himself scored 26 off 13 balls. Sunil Narine, opening the batting scored a quickfire 30 off 17 balls. There were contributions from the middle-order but none of them could kick on to get a big score.

St Lucia Kings and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots face off each other in the final later tonight. The IPL bound Windies players will then fly off to the UAE to join their respective IPL franchises. The IPL 2021 UAE leg kicks off with a clash between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings on September 19.
