CPL 2023 Qualifier 1: Umpire’s ‘John Cena’ Move In Imran Tahir’s View-Blocking Incident Goes Viral

In Qualifier 1 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023, Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) faced off against the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR), and an unusual incident involving Imran Tahir made headlines.

Imran Tahir, the skipper of GAW, found himself in a rather unique situation during his spell in the fifth over of TKR’s innings. As Tahir stepped up to bowl, Mark Deyal, a TKR batsman, attempted a slog sweep on the very first ball.

However, his attempt proved futile, as the ball crashed into his pads without making any contact with the bat. This resulted in a fervent appeal from the experienced spinner.

The on-field umpire, however, faced an unexpected obstacle. Imran Tahir’s positioning obstructed the umpire’s view of the delivery, leaving him unable to make a decision.

In response, the official signaled that he couldn’t see the ball due to Tahir’s presence.Swiftly, the GAW skipper decided to utilize the Decision Review System (DRS).

This tactical move turned out to be in his favor, as the ball-tracking technology displayed three reds, confirming the legitimacy of the appeal and granting Tahir the wicket he sought.

Imran Tahir had been in fine form throughout CPL 2023, amassing an impressive tally of 13 wickets from 11 matches while maintaining an economical bowling rate of 6.86 runs per over.

Despite this success, Imran Tahir and his team faced a setback in the Qualifier 1 match against TKR. TKR won the toss and elected to field, with GAW posting a total of 166/7 in their 20 overs.

Saim Ayub and Azam Khan were the standout performers with the bat, contributing 49 and 36 runs, respectively. Terrance Hinds and Waqar Salamkheil impressed with the ball, each claiming two wickets.

However, TKR comfortably chased down the target in 18.1 overs, securing a convincing seven-wicket victory. Opener Chadwick Walton was the star for TKR, remaining unbeaten on 80 runs. For GAW, Dwaine Pretorius managed to pick up two wickets, while Imran Tahir secured a single scalp.

With this victory, the Trinbago Knight Riders became the first team to qualify for the CPL 2023 final.

Guyana Amazon Warriors, on the other hand, will face off against the Jamaica Tallawahs in Qualifier 2, which promises to be another exciting encounter at the Providence Stadium on Friday.
