The West Indies hard-hitting batter Rakheem Cornwall produced one of the best innings in CPL history with a match-winning knock for Barbados Royals against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Kensington Oval, Barbados on 3rd September 2023.
Chasing a mammoth total of 221 to win, Kyle Mayers showed intent right from the word go putting pressure on the Nevis and Patriots bowlers. He was dismissed with a quickfire 22 off 13 deliveries. Mayers and Cornwall added 41 runs for the opening wicket in 4 overs. Cornwall looked in sublime touch putting enough pressure on bowlers with his power hitting.
Cornwall reached his fifty off just 23 deliveries and kept the momentum going for the Royals side. He hammered the opponent bowlers with ease smashing them all over the park. It was a sensational knock as he completed a century off just 45 deliveries. He retired hurt after making 102 off 48 deliveries with 4 fours and 12 massive sixes at a stunning strike rate of 212.50. It was a special knock as Royals won the match easily by 8 wickets with 11 balls to spare.

With this win, Barbados Royals moved to fourth place in the points with 7 points from 7 games. This includes 3 wins and 3 losses in the tournament. Cornwall jumped to third place as the leading runs scorer in CPL 2023. Before this match, the hard-hitting batter struggled with his rhythm and looked out of sorts. He picked 2 wickets in the bowling giving away just 27 runs in 3 overs. For his all-round effort, Cornwall was named Player of the Match award.
Barbados Royals bowlers struggle to stop the batting department of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Andre Flecther and Will Smeed put on 115 runs for the opening wicket laying a strong foundation for a big total. St Kitts captain Sherfane Rutherford scored an unbeaten knock of 65 off 27 balls to help St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to post 220 for 4 in 20 overs.
Rakheem Cornwall’s performance in CPL history
Cornwall showed his class with a match-winning century that helped Barbados Royals post a huge total and made life tough for the opponent bowlers. His knock helped the Royals seal the 3rd highest ever run chase in CPL history.
He featured for St Lucia Zouks and Kings franchise from 2017-21. After that, he was bought by the Barbados Royals side in 2022. Cornwall performed decently for the Royals side in 2022 with 242 runs from 9 matches ( 9 innings) with 1 half-century including the best score of 91.
