Cricket Australia announced New TV rights deal for cricket broadcast in Australia

Cricket Australia today announced a new broadcast deal with Foxtel and Channel Seven, putting an end to the four-decades-long relationship of Channel Nine with cricket in the country.

Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland told the media that the deal was worth $1.2 billion over a period of six years.

Test matches will now be shown on both the new accompanied channels, the free-to-air Seven and pay TV Fox Sports.

However, only Foxtel has exclusive rights for Australia”s home one-day internationals and T20 games, meaning these matches will not be on free-to-air television.

Although Nine has lost the rights to the home season cricket broadcast in the country the next Ashes series and ODI World Cup will still be shown on Nine.

The Big Bash now also moves from Network Ten to the Seven, who will show 43 games on free-to-air, while Fox Sports will simulcast those 43 matches and also broadcast the 16 games not shown on Seven.

All the Australia”s national women”s team matches will be shown on free-to-air television for the first time, with both Seven and Fox Sports broadcasting all home Tests, ODIs and T20Is every summer for the next six years.

Sutherland on the occasion talked about the increase in broadcast quality and attention to women”s cricket under the new deal.

“What we are particularly proud of in this partnership is the focus on extending our broadcast coverage of women’s matches,” said Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland.

“Our partners are key to inspiring more women and girls to pick up a bat and ball. If the more elite content is accessible to fans be it on TV or through their mobile devices, we’re helping tap into new audiences to attract them to the sport.”
