The prospect of Hardik Pandya joining the Chennai Super Kings from the Mumbai Indians has sparked talk of what could be one of the biggest trades in IPL history. Reports suggest two possible trade scenarios are being explored. According to one version, Mumbai Indians are seeking Shivam Dube and Ayush Mhatre in return for Hardik.
Another report claims CSK are reluctant to part with Mhatre and have instead proposed a package of Shivam Dube, Dewald Brevis and an additional ₹10 crore. While neither franchise has officially confirmed any negotiations, the reported proposals have generated plenty of discussion over their value.
Hardik remains one of the most sought-after players in Indian cricket, thanks to his ability to contribute as a middle-order batter, seam-bowling all-rounder and leader, all without occupying an overseas slot. Ultimately, the success of any trade depends on the value exchanged by both teams.
Based on IPL 2026 performances, player valuations, age profiles and squad balance, both reported packages appear to favour the Mumbai Indians.
Hardik Pandya Remains A High-Value Asset Despite Inconsistent Form
Hardik Pandya‘s reputation naturally commands a premium. There are very few Indian cricketers who can bat in the middle order while also contributing meaningful pace-bowling overs, and that rare combination makes him significantly more valuable than a simple comparison of batting and bowling statistics would indicate.
That said, his IPL 2026 numbers do not reflect the output of a player expected to fetch a blockbuster trade. Hardik scored 206 runs at an average of 22.89 and a strike rate of 138.26, without registering a single half-century. His finishing numbers were also below expectations, managing just 49 runs off 37 balls at a strike rate of 132.4 in the death overs.
His bowling returns were even more underwhelming. Hardik claimed only four wickets in 22.4 overs while conceding runs at an economy rate of 11.43. He leaked 15.75 runs per over at the death and 13.75 during the powerplay, with his only economical phase coming between overs 12 and 16, where he maintained an economy of 7.80.
Based purely on his batting and bowling performances, Hardik’s estimated IPL 2026 on-field value works out to around ₹4.10 crore. Factoring in an additional ₹1 crore for his captaincy contribution takes that figure to roughly ₹5.10 crore. That remains well below the reported valuation of ₹16.35 crore.
However, this does not imply Hardik’s actual market value is only ₹5.10 crore. IPL valuations are influenced by far more than a single season’s performances. His leadership credentials, rarity as an Indian pace-bowling all-rounder, and long-term potential all add considerable value.
What the numbers do suggest, though, is that any franchise pursuing him would be investing in a return to his best rather than rewarding his 2026 campaign alone. That is an important distinction when assessing how much he is worth in a trade.
