Vijay Shankar had succumbed to an injury scare in the nets ahead of the match against Afghanistan. Sources say that a perfect Yorker from Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah just crushed the toes of Vijay Shankar who was batting fluently in the nets. However, reports suggest that he was down with pain the moment he sustained the injury, but now he is fit and fine.

One of the officials reported that “Yes, Vijay was in pain but it has subsided by the evening. Hopefully, there”s nothing scary.” While all the things happened on Wednesday, Shankar was seen walking with slippers during the training session on Thursday. He didn”t take part in the training session and the management hopes that anything is not serious. He did some jogging on the ground and was found limping at some point of time during the rain-hit practice session.

It is to be noted that Indian opener Shikar Dhawan has already been ruled out and pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be out of action for a week. Vijay proved his competence as an all-rounder during the last game against Pakistan. With five more games remaining in the group stage, the side will be looking to win the games and needs all the players to be fit.

The Indian side has won 3 games out of 4 games and a washout against New Zealand keeps them at fourth position in the points table. Intense competition between New Zealand, Australia, England and India is on the cards and it will be interesting who finishes at the top of the table.
