The woes for Afghanistan seems never to subside in the current World tournament. While the things started right away from the change of captain, Shahzad”s injury and lack of a quality pace attack and several other problems are troubling them.
As an additional insult to injury, Sayed Ahmed Shirzad has been roped into the side as a replacement for Aftab Alam. Shirzad is a 24-year-old left-arm pacer who represented the side in 5 limited over Internationals taking 7 wickets till now.Â

While digging the reasons behind the change at the last moment, the Afghanistan Cricket Board stated that it was under “exceptional circumstances”. However, no further clarification has been provided regarding the same. It is understood that Aftab Alam seemed to have breached ICC code of conduct, as the press release says.
Aftab has been one of the lead pacers for the side since the start of the tournament, and the reasons behind this player swap are raising eyebrows all of a sudden.
It is to be noted that Afghanistan coach Phil Simmons revealed that he will speak regarding the issues happening in the team environment after the tournament. The entire cricketing world is awaiting what it would be and what”s the main reason behind the sudden decline of such a quality side over the last few years.Â
