After a win against Australia at the Kennington Oval, the Indian side is now placed at the third position on the points table. Shikhar Dhawan”s scintillating century played a huge role in scripting one of the most memorable victories.
However, a day after it was reported that Dhawan has been ruled out of action for three weeks due to a thumb injury sustained during the match. This left the Indian fans in sorrow as the man of ICC tournaments will not be seen at the crease for some time now.
The latest news is that youngster Rishabh Pant has been called up by the team management as an injury cover for the opener. It is to be noted that Pant proved his class in the English conditions last year as he amassed a century. His recent performances in the Indian Premier League, in fact, exhibited his ability to withstand pressure in the middle order.
India will face New Zealand on Thursday 13th June before the much awaited intense clash against Pakistan on Sunday, the 16th. The Indian side will be forced to open with Rahul and Rohit with the inclusion of either Vijay Shankar or Dinesh Karthik as the number four batsman. It will be interesting who will be grabbing the position as Dhawan”s absence would leave a huge void in the batting order.
