The latest news is that youngster Rishabh Pant has been called up by the team management as an injury cover for the opener. It is to be noted that Pant proved his class in the English conditions last year as he amassed a century. His recent performances in the Indian Premier League, in fact, exhibited his ability to withstand pressure in the middle order.

Team India batting Coach Sanjay Bangar, “We’re monitoring Shikhar Dhawan. He may take 10-12 days to recover, we’ll assist him. Vijay Shankar is one of the options, if&when required. It’s good to have back up. Rishabh Pant will be in Manchester.”

However, Dhawan hasn’t been completely ruled out of the tournament. According to reports, he is still under medical observation but Pant has been called just as an injury cover if something happens otherwise.

India will face New Zealand on Thursday 13th June before the much awaited intense clash against Pakistan on Sunday, the 16th. The Indian side will be forced to open with Rahul and Rohit with the inclusion of either Vijay Shankar or Dinesh Karthik as the number four batsman. It will be interesting who will be grabbing the position as Dhawan’s absence would leave a huge void in the batting order.
