The South African fast bowler Dale Steyn is probably the best of his generation. Over the years, when Steyn bowled to Sachin Tendulkar, it had everyone on the edge of their seats. The little master scored the first-ever double hundred against South Africa. In 2010, Tendulkar made history when he scored the first double hundred in Gwalior.

Tendulkar dominated every South African bowler that day including Steyn. The fast bowler recalled one hilarious incident when Umpire Ian Gould refused to give Tendulkar out. In a recent Sky Sports Cricket podcast, Steyn said that he had Tendulkar out when he was batting on 190. The Podcast included England fast bowler James Anderson and former players Naseer Hussain and Robert Key.

Steyn said, “Tendulkar scored the first-ever double hundred against us in ODI cricket, and it was in Gwalior. And I actually remember I had him out lbw when he was batting on 190 odd. Ian Gould was the umpire and he did not give him out.”

“And I was like, ‘Why why did you not give him out? That’s so dead.’ And he was like, “Mate look around, if I gave him out, I won’t even make it back to the hotel,” Dale Steyn added.

The Proteas ultimately lost the match by a huge margin of 153 runs. On the back of Tendulkar’s double ton, India posted a mammoth total of 401 for three. Dale Steyn in the podcast also talked about the challenges when he had to ball at Tendulkar. The great Fast bowler admitted that Tendulkar was a great challenge in his career as the margin of error against him was very little.

“You bowl a bad ball to him, he will hit you for four. When he’s batting at nought and hits you for a boundary in Mumbai, it feels like the world is against you. He’s only on four not out, but he may as well have been on 500,” Steyn concluded.
