The suspension comes into effect immediately and his match fee for the second test is withheld. He played a vital role in the game as he amassed half-centuries in both the innings. According to a press release from SLC, the batsman was said to have breached “player code of conduct” and this ultimately led to his termination.

This is not the first time that he hit the news following his on and off-field controversies. In January, he was awarded demerit points for a sending off Tamim Iqbal. During the 2017 limited overs against India at home, he was suspended for six international games for skipping a training session. However, it was reduced later to a span of three games.

Danushka Gunathilaka represented Sri Lanka in 53 games across all three formats scoring over 1500 runs. It will be interesting who will be taking up the opening slot in the series against England.

Sri Lanka comprehensively won the two-match test series against Southafrica and this will really raise the spirit in the camp. The match saw only two overs bowled by the pacers and this shows the level of dominance by the spin attack. The Proteas, on the other hand, will have a lot of homework to do to accustom the Asian conditions.

Dimuth Karunaratne was adjudged the Man of the series for his prolific contribution with the bat.
