Daren Sammy Reacts To Assault Allegations Against WI Player Amid Australia Tests

West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has finally addressed the sexual assault allegations against fast bowler Shamar Joseph during the ongoing home Test series against Australia. During a press interaction, the former West Indies captain accused a reporter of being unkind as he was leaving the press conference.

Following Joseph’s remarkable performance in the first Test against Australia, multiple reports surfaced alleging that 11 women, including a minor, had accused the 25-year-old pacer of rape and inappropriate conduct. According to Kaieteur News, Shamar Joseph also allegedly attempted to bribe the teenage victim in an effort to suppress the matter.

However, the girl’s family remains determined to pursue justice. After the media briefing ahead of the second Test, Daren Sammy reportedly told a journalist, as per The Sydney Morning Herald:

“You’re a mean guy man. Why you being so mean to the guy?”

Sammy expressed confidence that the team’s dressing room remains positive and focused despite the ongoing media coverage ahead of the crucial Test match. He stated that the players are prepared to let the legal process take its course. The 41-year-old further commented:

“We’re all aware of what’s been going on in the media. I’m very close to my players. I’ve had conversations with them to make sure their mental space is good. One thing I could say is that we believe in justice. We are a community that believes justice must be served. However, there is a process. As you say, there are allegations.”

“We will continue to support in whatever way we can to make sure due process and the right system is followed. As a cricketing board and me as head coach, I want justice. My mum raised me well. As of now, it’s all allegations. We know the justice system. You have got to wait for things to process.”
