Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka took a superb catch under pressure during the T20 World Cup match against Zimbabwe at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Thursday, February 19. He showed great awareness as he safely completed the catch while making sure he didn’t collide with a teammate.
The moment came in the 19th over of Zimbabwe’s innings. Dushan Hemantha bowled a leg-break, and Tashinga Musekiwa tried to hit it for a big shot. However, the ball came off the bottom edge of his bat and went high into the air. Shanaka ran back from mid-on towards long-off and grabbed the ball while falling to the ground.
It could easily have ended in a collision or a dropped catch, but Shanaka kept his cool.It was his second catch in the same over, after he had earlier dismissed Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza, who had scored 45 runs and was looking dangerous.

Zimbabwe Beat Sri Lanka by Six Wickets in Tense Final-Over Finish
Brian Bennett and Sikandar Raza played superb knocks to help Zimbabwe beat Sri Lanka by six wickets in the T20 World Cup 2026. Bennett stayed not out on 63 runs from 48 balls, hitting eight boundaries. Raza scored a quick 45 off just 26 balls, including four sixes and two fours.
Tadwanashe Marumani added 34 from 26 balls, while Ryan Burl chipped in with 23 off 12 deliveries. For Sri Lanka, Dushan Hemantha was the most successful bowler with two wickets. Captain Dasun Shanaka and Dunith Wellalage took one wicket each.
Sri Lanka batted first and posted 178 for 7 in 20 overs. Pathum Nissanka was the top scorer with 62 off 41 balls, striking eight fours. Pavan Rathnayake also played well, scoring 44 off 25 balls with two sixes and three fours.
For Zimbabwe, Blessing Muzarabani, Brad Evans, and Graeme Crème picked up two wickets each, while Ryan Burl took one. With this win, Zimbabwe kept their unbeaten run going in the tournament. They had earlier beaten Oman and Australia, while their match against Ireland was washed out due to rain.
