“Data should drive a good contest between bat and ball in cricket, not just for hitting fours and sixes. Cricket has always been statistically-driven like baseball, but over the past 15 years we have moved beyond comparing averages and now use data to help in strategy and player selection,” Dravid said.

Meanwhile, to make the IPL error-free, the BCCI has brought in new rules to lessen the confusion in the game. They have done away with sift-signals and brought in the third umpire decisions into play in case of short-run and close decisions. The decision has been taken keeping in mind the smooth conduct of the game.

Cricket has been a stat-driven game so long and the introduction of the various data in response to bowlers, batsmen and teams have opened up a new avenue in the contest.

Dravid highlighted the same fact and said that the technology should be used to better the game and not to leave the players and officials confused.
