After learning that he will not be able to play in the next two Tests of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, Australian opener David Warner recently expressed his sadness.
During the second Test in Delhi, Warner was struck by Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj and sustained a concussion. Once X-rays revealed that the left-handed batter also suffered an elbow fracture, he was forced to return to Australia.
On Friday, February 24, Warner responded to his injuries on social media. He said that having to end the tour early had left him feeling disappointed. The 36-year-old also expressed his gratitude to the supporters for attending the first two games of the series in large numbers.
Despite the visitors’ consecutive defeats to India, the daring batsman appeared optimistic that Australia will produce a comeback in the remaining matches.
“Sad to leave the tour injured” – David Warner
“Sad to leave the tour injured and Not the memories that I wanted. Thanks to all the fans that turned up to all our games that we have played so far. Delhi did not go our way but two more games to go for the team and hopefully we can rebound quickly.”
Notably, David Warner has drawn criticism for his subpar batting performance in the Test series. The southpaw finished with a disappointing average of 8.66 after only producing 26 runs over three innings.
Australia’s campaign in the series, in which they wasted their opportunity to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, was summed up by Warner’s performances. India has grabbed a commanding 2-0 lead and won the trophy for the fourth time in a row thanks to victory in the first two Test matches.
All-Rounder Cameron Green is fit for the third test match which will be played at Indore on 1st March.
