Deepak Chahar bowled a spell of 4/13, his best in the IPL to help Chennai Super Kings win their first game of IPL 2021. Chahar’s exploits with the ball restricted Punjab Kings to 26/5 in the powerplay and finally at 106/8. CSK then chased down the target with almost five overs to spare and registered the best net-run rate in the points table as of now. The MS Dhoni-led team are also placed second on the points table while Punjab seventh.

Meanwhile, Deepak Chahar after the match dedicated his performance to the boy who asked him not to play on Twitter. The boy had written – “Bhai aap bohot acche bowler ho but ek request hai — agla match mat khelna’ (You are a good bowler but I request you to not play the next match).”

Deepak Chahar had received the message after Chennai Super Kings lost their opener against Delhi Capitals by seven wickets. However, he came up with a perfect response in the next game with his best-ever performance in IPL.

This Was A Dream Spell For Me: Deepak Chahar

“I was watching social media after reaching my room. A boy had texted me saying, ‘Bhai aap bohot acche bowler ho but ek request hai — agla match mat khelna’ (You are a good bowler but I request you to not play the next match). Expectations are very high and performing in every match is important. So, this is for that guy who messaged me. This performance would not have come if I was not playing. Don’t declare a player bad on the basis his one performance. Please support them,” Chahar said in a chat with his CSK teammate Shardul Thakur.

Chahar had dismissed Mayank Agarwal (0), Chris Gayle (10), Deepak Hooda (10), and Nicholas Pooran (0) to reduce Punjab to 26/5 inside seven overs. CSK face a Ben Stokes-less Rajasthan Royals in their next game on April 19.
