Deepti Sharma etched her name into the record books by becoming the highest wicket-taker in women’s T20Is during the fifth and final match of the series between India and Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, December 30. The Indian off-spinner went past Australia pacer Megan Schutt’s tally of 151 wickets.
She reached the landmark by trapping Nilakshika Silva lbw for three runs in the 14th over of Sri Lanka’s chase. The on-field umpire had no hesitation in raising the finger, with Silva struck right in front. The delivery struck her just above the knee roll on the front pad, and ball-tracking confirmed it would have gone on to hit the off stump.
Most wickets in women’s T20Is (full-member teams only):
- Deepti Sharma – 152*
- Meg Schutt – 151
- Nida Dar (Pakistan) – 144
- Sophie Ecclestone (England) – 142
- Ellyse Perry (Australia) – 126
It marked Deepti Sharma’s fifth wicket of the series against Sri Lanka, despite her absence from the second match. Overall, just five Indian bowlers across men’s and women’s cricket have taken more than 100 wickets in T20Is — Radha Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya.

Deepti Sharma Makes History As India Set 176-Run Target In 5th T20I
Team India put up a total of 175/7 in their 20 overs after being put in to bat against Sri Lanka in the fifth and final T20I. The batting lineup struggled for consistency, with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur standing out after scoring a brisk 68 off 43 balls, which included one six and nine fours.
Amanjot Kaur contributed 21 runs from 18 deliveries, while Sneh Rana added valuable late runs with an unbeaten 27 off just 11 balls, hitting one six and four boundaries. For Sri Lanka, Kavisha Dilhari, captain Chamari Athapaththu, and Rashmika Sewwandi claimed two wickets apiece. Chasing the target, the visitors were placed at 113/4 after 15.1 overs.
India currently hold an unassailable 4–0 lead in the five-match series and are on course for a clean sweep, having won the opening three encounters by eight, seven, and eight wickets, followed by a 30-run victory in the fourth game. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will be hoping to salvage some pride with a win in the final match.
