The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has far been a nail-biting experience. Only one team has managed to secure the playoff berth. While at one point it looked like Delhi Capitals will make it to the top four convincingly, former Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara believes they might actually miss the playoff berth.
Despite making a promising start in this season’s IPL, Delhi have suffered three back to back defeats and are now placed at the third spot in the points table with 14 points. Their batting has looked completely out of socks which have been the major reason behind their setback.
Delhi Capitals might find tough to make the playoffs – Kumar Sangakkara
Sharing his insights about the qualification scenario of the IPL 2020 on Star Sports’ show ‘Cricket Live’, Kumar Sangakkara said that he is ‘worried’ about Delhi Capitals’ chances of making it to the playoffs. He also explained why he thinks Delhi’s chances look bleak.
“It’s highly dependent on their top-order, no of the other batsman have got the quick runs. So, they could be the fourth one, but I would not be too sure. Well, Mumbai is quite secure, I think RCB will make it there (playoffs) as well,” Sangakkara said.
Adding further, former Sri Lankan cricketer also predicted that KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab will secure a top-four finish this season despite their defeat against Rajasthan Royals. Punjab started slowly losing six of their first seven games but has come back superbly with consecutive five wins.
“I would say, Kings XI Punjab will make it there as well. And the fourth one, I am just struggling to make a concrete prediction on the fourth one,” Kumar Sangakkara added.
