West Indies pacer Obed McCoy produced an impactful performance on Monday, August 1 at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts against India in the second T20I. He rattled the India batting attack in the match, with his fierce bowling. West Indies bowled out India for 138 runs and chased it down in the final over to equal the five-match T20I series 1-1 after the first two games.

Nicholas Pooran won the toss and opted to bowl first. McCoy proved his skipper’s decision right as he struck an early blow to India by dismissing Rohit Sharma for a golden duck. The Indian batter could not counter Obed McCoy’s bowling exploits and lost wickets at regular intervals. They were finally bowled out in 19.4 over for 138 runs.

The left-arm pacer finished the innings with six wickets in four overs. He conceded only seventeen runs at an economy rate of 4.2. West Indies ultimately won the match with five wickets to spare, as Brandon King and Devon Thomas led them home. Brandon King scored 61 runs, while Thomas remained unbeaten on 31 runs off 19 deliveries.

Obed McCoy dismissed Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Dinesh Karthik, and Ravichandran Ashwin in the match. The youngster won the Player of the Match award for his remarkable bowling performance in the second T20I. He also earned praise from fans and experts on social media who were left amazed by his bowling.

Obed McCoy’s 6/17 is now the best West Indies bowling figure in a T20. Kemo Paul is second on the list with 5/15, followed by Darren Sammy, Jason Holder, and Oshane Thomas. The West Indies left-arm bowler dedicated his bowling performance to his mother. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, McCoy was quoted as saying,

“I want to thank God. I’m doing this for my mom, she is home sick. This is motivating me to be a better player. Thankful for it.”

The third T20I between West Indies and India is all set to take place on August 2 at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts.
