Devon Conway, the New Zealand cricketer for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has been sidelined for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to injury. Despite uncertainty surrounding his participation, Conway missed the initial six games for CSK. Now, it’s confirmed he won’t feature in any matches this season.
In his absence, CSK has enlisted Richard Gleeson, an experienced English fast bowler, as his replacement. Conway, who contributed significantly to CSK’s title win last year, has played 23 matches for the franchise, amassing 924 runs with nine half-centuries and a highest score of 92 not out.
IPL gave an official statement: “Devon Conway has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 due to an injury.”
“CSK have added Richard Gleeson to the squad for the remainder of the IPL 2024. Gleeson has represented England in 6 T20Is and has 9 wickets against his name. Additionally, Gleeson has played 90 T20s and picked 101 T20 wickets. He will join CSK for his reserve price of Rs 50 Lacs.”
Meanwhile, the 36-year-old Gleeson, yet to debut in IPL, gained prominence after his T20I debut for England in 2022 at the age of 35 against India. In that match, he showcased his prowess by dismissing prominent Indian batsmen like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant, ending with figures of 3/15. Gleeson has featured in a total of six T20Is for England. Currently, CSK occupies the third position in the points table with four victories from six matches.
Following their victory against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Chennai is poised to deliver another strong performance as they take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in an away match on April 19, marking the 34th encounter of IPL 2024. Scheduled for 7:30 pm IST, with the toss at 7:00 pm IST, this match promises an exciting showdown.
LSG currently holds the fifth position in the IPL 2024 points table, securing three wins and three losses. Despite a setback in their inaugural match against Rajasthan Royals, LSG bounced back with consecutive victories against Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Gujarat Titans.
