The Indian Cricket Team has performed brilliantly in longer format under the captaincy of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, they registered their first series win in Australia during the 2017/18 Test series winning by 2-1. India versus Pakistan is one of the fiercest rivalries in world cricket so far.

After Virat Kohli did not take part in the first Test during the 2020/21 Test series in Australia. Rahane took charge and helped India register a memorable 2-1 victory without their star players including Bumrah, Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja who were injured and did not take part in the fourth test match at Gabba, Brisbane.

India and Pakistan played their last test series way back in 2007. Since then both teams have not each other in any of the longer formats due to political reasons. The India versus Pakistan is considered to be compared to the Ashes series between England and Australia.

The arch-rivals played their last bilateral series between each other as Pakistan visited India in 2007 and lost 1-0. Both teams has not played any bilateral series since 2012-13.

India has featured in two ICC World Test Championship finals in 2021 and 2023. They will look to reach another final during the 2023-25 season. Rohit Sharma and Co are currently at the number 1 spot as they defeated England by 4-1 despite not having top players including KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami.

India and Pakistan play in major tournaments like the Asia Cup, World Cups including 50 over, and T20 World Cup. India and Pakistan played in the 2023 World Cup played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

India and Pakistan have been clubbed in the same group during T20 World Cup 2024 to be played in New York on 9th June.

Rohit Sharma’s reactions on Test series with Pakistan

The Indian captain said: “I would love to. At the end of the day, we want to be in the contest. I think it will be a great contest between the two sides. We anyway play them in the ICC tournaments. So, it doesn’t even matter. It’s pure cricket that I am looking at. I am not interested in anything else. It’s just pure cricket. A battle between bat and ball. It will be a great contest so why not.”

India will look to continue their dominating run against Pak when they face each other in New York on 9th June. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the Indian team would look to play attacking cricket and register another impressive win in the shortest format. Due to Kohli’s brilliance, the Indian team registered a memorable victory over Pakistan at MCG during the 2022 World T20.
