Dhruv Jurel Shines Despite India A Loss To Australia A 2nd Unofficial Test

Team India’s wicket-keeper batter Dhruv Jurel registered his maiden Test century on Day 2 of the first Test against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, October 3. He achieved the milestone during a commanding fifth-wicket partnership with Ravindra Jadeja in the first innings.

Jurel came in at No. 5 after Shubman Gill was dismissed in the 57th over. Tasked with a prominent role as a middle-order batter along with his wicket-keeping responsibilities, he rose to the occasion. The 24-year-old had already impressed on Day 1 with his exceptional agility behind the stumps against the moving ball.

Building on that foundation, he looked confident and comfortable at the crease from the start. He played a key role in accelerating the scoring alongside Jadeja, dispatching several sixes while the West Indies struggled to make breakthroughs with the old ball in tricky conditions.

Jurel reached his century in style with a boundary to midwicket and celebrated the achievement memorably. With this performance, Jurel has made a strong case for being considered as a specialist batter even after Rishabh Pant’s expected return from injury.

Fans have also called on the team management to consider him for the No. 3 spot, highlighting his technical skills and Sai Sudharsan’s recent challenges. Here are some twitter reactions:

Team India continued from where they ended on the opening day, finishing at 121-2, just 41 runs behind West Indies’ first-innings total. The visitors quickly wiped out the deficit, while KL Rahul registered his first century on home soil since 2016.

At present, Dhruv Jurel is unbeaten on 113 runs off 200 balls as India sit strongly at 407-4 in the 120th over. The Men in Blue now hold a commanding lead of 245 runs heading into the next session.
