Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi has been slapped with a steeper fine following his team’s clash against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2025 on Friday, April 4. His penalty was increased to 50% of his match fees due to his on-field gestures during the game.
Rathi once again pulled out the ‘notebook’ celebration after dismissing MI batter Naman Dhir in Lucknow. Just four days earlier, he had been fined 25% of his match fee for a similar celebration in the match against the Punjab Kings.
With a repeat of the action, his latest fine was doubled to 50% for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. It was classified as his second Level 1 offence under Article 2.5. Along with the fine, Rathi also received two demerit points, adding to the one he had already received in the earlier match.
“Digvesh Singh, Bowler, Lucknow Super Giants has been fined 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Mumbai Indians at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday.”
“This was his second Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points, in addition to One Demerit Point which he accumulated during LSG’s match against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025,” read a statement issued by the IPL committee (via The Indian Express).
Digvesh Rathi Continues to Shine with the Ball in IPL 2025
Despite facing fines and demerit points, Digvesh Rathi has been a standout performer for the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025. He began the season with figures of 2/31 in his debut match against the Delhi Capitals. He followed it up with a wicket against Sunrisers Hyderabad and added two more in the clash against Punjab Kings.
His dismissal of a batter in the match against Mumbai Indians took his tally to six wickets in four games. Rathi currently holds an impressive average of 20.33 and an economy rate of 7.62. At 25, he has emerged as a promising talent for Lucknow and will look to build on his form as the season progresses.
