Joe Root

The Dubai Capitals have signed former England Test captain Joe Root for the inaugural International T20 League. After a long absence from franchise cricket, the 31-year-old is looking to rediscover his mojo in limited overs and has thus signed with the franchise to try his luck as an all-format player all over again.

The middle-order batsman is currently absent from England‘s T20 lineup but hopes to return soon. Root has also signed up for the forthcoming IPL 2023 mini auction when he will be auctioned off for a starting bid of INR 1 crore.

Following Root’s agreement with their sister team, it is anticipated that Delhi Capitals will express interest in him as well and offer him his first deal in the lucrative league. The auction is slated for December 23 in Kochi, and because Root has registered for the first time in a long time, all eyes will be on him.

Joe Root has appeared in 88 T20 matches and scored 2083 runs at a strike rate of 126.70. In the shortest format of the game, the Englishman averages 32.54 and has 22 wickets at an economy of 8.56.

He appeared in 32 Twenty20 Internationals and scored 893 runs at a strike rate of 126.30. In the process, he also took six wickets. Now, in T20 cricket, where every franchise seeks a valuable all-rounder, Root can be an asset in the game’s shortest format.

Dubai Capitals have also signed Rovman Powell

In addition to the 31-year-old, the Dubai Capitals have signed Rovman Powell, Dushmantha Chameera, Hazratullah Zazai, Fabian Allen, Mujeeb Ur Raman, Sikandar Raza, Niroshan Dickwella, Dasun Shanaka, Bhanuka Rajapaskha, Dan Lawrence, Blessing Muzarabani, Isuru Udana, George Munsey, and Fred Klaassen.

The tournament is set to begin its inaugural edition on January 13th, 2023 with six teams participating in the tournament.
