Dushmanta Chameera Ruled Out From The Upcoming Series Against India Due To An Injury

Dushmanta Chameera, a Sri Lankan fast bowler, is said to have incurred an injury at the eleventh hour which would keep him out of the inevitable octet of matches that await for selection over the white-ball series against India.

The team had previously been selected and was led by Charith Asalanka and communicated by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). As per the report from Sports Pavilion Lanka, so far there has been no indication from management about who will take Dushmanta’s place in the team and they have only few days left before embarking on the tour.

Chameera has experienced a series of injuries that have left him frustrated for the past two years, making it impossible for him to play consistently across formats since the T20 World Cup in 2022.

Just recently, he was seen making an appearance for Kandy Falcons during 2024 Lanka Premier League (LPL), where he played a total of five matches but his last match came on July 9 against eventual champions Jaffna with bowling figures of 2-44 to his name.

He was Gus Atkinson’s replacement during injuries ahead of the LPL and played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Despite being selected for Sri Lanka team taking part in T20 World Cup, he couldn’t play because other players like Nuwan Thushara and Matheesha Pathirana were given preference.

India’s tour of Sri Lanka is ready to start from July 27

The Sri Lankan team expects to write a new chapter following their poor performance at the 2024 T20 World Cup that saw them eliminated from the group stage. After the tournament came to an end, Wanindu Hasaranga and Chris Silverwood both resigned as captain and coach respectively.

While Sanath Jayasuriya will be leading team in the meantime, it is Charith Asalanka who has been appointed as the new captain. Additionally, Team India has undergone some changes too; this series will see Gautam Gambhir’s debut as head coach and Suryakumar Yadav’s first assignment as an all-time skipper.
