Former West Indies all-rounder and ex-Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Dwayne Bravo has made a surprising revelation about his decision to become the mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders. Bravo revealed that he consulted MS Dhoni before accepting the role and agreed to take it only after receiving Dhoni’s approval.
The Trinidadian played a key role in multiple title-winning campaigns for CSK across two stints. He also served as the franchise’s bowling coach last season, further strengthening his long-standing bond with skipper MS Dhoni.
In an Instagram video, when asked by the anchor whom he would support if the IPL 2025 final featured the Knight Riders and the Super Kings, Dwayne Bravo responded:
“Kolkata vs CSK, IPL final. I obviously want Kolkata to win. It’s sad but that’s where I’m coaching and that’s where they brought me to continue their legacy.”
”Dhoni will understand. When I got the job offer, I called him personally and I only accepted the offer after he said accept it. So, that’s the respect I have for him and the organization. Everyone really supported my decision, I’m happy and grateful for that and now I have to do what I have to.”

MS Dhoni Shares Record for Most IPL Titles as Captain
Meanwhile, the iconic wicketkeeper-batter has led the Super Kings to five IPL titles, including back-to-back triumphs in 2010 and 2011. In a surprising move, he stepped down as captain just a day before IPL 2024, passing on the leadership. Despite retiring from international cricket, Dhoni remains a massive star in the IPL.
At 43, he is also the oldest player featuring in IPL 2025. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will commence their IPL 2025 campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 23, 2025, at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 PM IST.
