In a surprising turn of events, Bangladesh’s pacer Ebadot Hossain, who has been nursing an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury since July 2023, has travelled to India with the Bangladesh T20 squad. Ebadot sustained his injury during the ODI series against Afghanistan and has since been sidelined, with surgery required to address the issue.

Why is Ebadot Traveling with the Squad?

Despite not being fit to play, Ebadot’s journey to India with the Bangladesh T20 squad is a strategic move by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). According to Shahriar Nafees, head of cricket operations for the BCB, Ebadot’s trip is aimed at continuing his rehabilitation under the close watch of the national team’s medical staff, including physio Bayzid Bhai and trainer Nathan Kelly.

Shahriar Nafees confirmed that Ebadot is not traveling to participate in the T20 series but to continue his rehabilitation. In a conversation with Cricbuzz, Nafees mentioned, “He is not going to play, he is going there to further continue his rehabilitation program.” This ensures that Ebadot remains under the direct supervision of the national team’s medical and coaching staff, maximizing his chances for a full recovery.

“Ebadot going with the team as he will continue his rehabilitation program in India,” Shahriar told Cricbuzz on Tuesday.

“Let me explain the situation at the moment, the Tigers Program is closed as everyone is released to join their respective First-class teams. The Tiger management worked for three to three and half months. Ebadot is going with the team as Bayzid Bhai( national team physio) will assess him along with Nathan Kelly( trainer),” he said.

“He is not going to play, he is going there to further continue his rehabilitation program as per the request of the national team because there is the bowling coach and others who want to see him from close quarters,” he added.

How the Tigers Program Helped

The Tigers Program, an initiative aimed at developing and nurturing the best cricket talent in Bangladesh, had been working with Ebadot before his injury. The program involves intense training and conditioning, which likely played a role in his ability to recover more effectively. However, with the program temporarily on hold, Ebadot’s inclusion with the T20 squad provides continuity in his rehabilitation.

Bangladesh’s upcoming T20 series overview

The upcoming T20 series between Bangladesh and India is set to be an exciting clash. With matches scheduled in Gwalior, Delhi, and Hyderabad, fans are eager to see how the Bangladesh team will perform, especially without key players like Shakib Al Hasan.

In addition to Ebadot, Bangladesh is also missing several other key players, most notably Shakib Al Hasan, who recently announced his retirement. His absence will undoubtedly leave a void in the team, but the younger players are stepping up to fill the gap.

Shoriful Islam’s confidence

Despite the challenges, pacer Shoriful Islam remains confident in the team’s ability to deliver a strong performance. “I think the team is good and if we can play to our potential, we can produce good results,” Shoriful told reporters. His optimism reflects the team’s spirit, as they head into the series ready to give their best.

Tanzim Shakib echoed Shoriful’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of teamwork. “We need to play as a unit to fill his (Shakib’s) gap,” he said. The team’s focus on unity and collective effort could be the key to their success in the upcoming series.
