The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) may face changes in their home game venues for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, as Eden Gardens is set for extensive renovations. To accommodate this, KKR is considering the new international stadium under construction in Narsingarh, Tripura, as an alternative.
IPL Chairman Arun Kumar Dhumal recently visited the site and suggested to Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) officials that if construction completes by February 2025, the stadium could serve as KKR’s temporary home ground. If delays occur, however, KKR may explore options in another state.
TCA Accelerates Stadium Construction in Tripura
The TCA is intensifying efforts to meet the February 2025 deadline for completing the Narsingarh stadium. A well-known construction agency has been hired, and TCA Secretary Subarta Dey has stated that if the current agency fails to meet the timeline, a new contractor will be brought in.
Construction progress has reportedly reached 80%, though the project initially had a shorter 22-month timeline but has extended over seven years. Determined to make the stadium IPL-ready, TCA emphasized in a recent meeting the goal of hosting at least two KKR matches at this new venue.
KKR Prepares for 2025 Season After Winning 2024 Title
The 2024 IPL season was a triumphant one for KKR, as they claimed their third title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. Heading into the 2025 season, KKR retained key players, including Rinku Singh, at ₹13 crore, along with Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, and Varun Chakaravarthy, each retained at ₹12 crore.
Uncapped players Harshit and Ramandeep were retained at ₹4 crore apiece, leaving KKR with ₹51 crore in their purse for the 2025 mega auction. With both their roster and potential home ground evolving, KKR is gearing up for another competitive IPL season, hoping to maintain their winning momentum.
