Eden Gardens To Have Renovations For Its Bid To Host The Final Of The T20I World Cup In 2026

The iconic Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata is scheduled for renovations as the board aims to submit a bid to host the T20 World Cup final in 2026. The tournament is set to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February to March 2026.

Notably, reports indicate that the renovation work is planned to commence after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024. As one of the largest cricket stadiums globally, Eden Gardens is expected to undergo enhancements for improved facilities.

The venue also accommodated five matches during the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023, featuring India’s significant encounter against South Africa, where Virat Kohli equaled the iconic record of 49 ODI centuries held by Sachin Tendulkar. Eden Gardens aspires to be the venue for the T20 World Cup final in 2026.

Eden Gardens will be the venue for KKR in IPL 2024

Additionally, the renowned stadium will continue to serve as the home ground for the two-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, Kolkata Knight Riders. The team fell short in the 16th edition of the prestigious tournament, failing to secure a spot in the knockout stages.

In IPL 2023, Kolkata concluded the season in the seventh position, participating in 14 matches and securing victory in six. Unfortunately, they faced defeat in the remaining eight games, ultimately finishing with 12 points in the standings.

Under the leadership of Nitish Rana, the team, which produced emerging stars like Rinku Singh, awaits the 17th edition of the tournament. It remains intriguing to witness Kolkata’s performance and whether they can clinch their third IPL title.

The team kept players such as Andre Russell and Sunil Narine and enlisted former cricketer Gautam Gambhir as their mentor for the forthcoming season. Having their former captain involved could significantly boost Kolkata’s campaign.
