Sri Lanka vs India T20I series was dealt with a major blow when Indian all-rounder Krunal Pandya tested positive for the covid-19 virus. Consequently, the second T20I was postponed by a day.

Krunal Pandya experienced a sore throat just a few hours before the second t20I match on Tuesday. The medical team conducted a Rapid Antigen test, in which his results returned positive. The whole Indian contingent took RT-PCR tests, and all the other player’s tests returned negative.

Eight players – Suryakumar Yadav, Prithvi Shaw, Hardik Pandya, Deepak Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Manish Pandey, K Gowtham, and Ishan Kishan had dinner together with Krunal before he tested positive, as reported by the Indian express. As a result, they were termed as his close contacts.

“Following the Rapid Antigen Tests conducted ahead of the match on Tuesday morning, Team India all-rounder Krunal Pandya was found to be positive. The Medical Teams have identified eight members as close contact,” the BCCI said in its statement.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah, in consultation with the selection committee, decided to keep the eight players under isolation till Friday. This rules them out from the third T20I. They added five players – Ishan Porel, Sandeep Warrier, Arshdeep Singh, R Sai Kishore, and Simarjeet Singh in the squad before the second T20I.

Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav’s journey to the UK in doubts

Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav have been picked as replacements for the England Test series. As reported by Indian Express, they will have to test negative in three RT-PCR tests before boarding the flight.

The three-match T20I series is currently leveled 1-1. Sri Lanka defeated a depleted Indian team by four wickets on Wednesday. The third T20I is all set to take place on Thursday, July 29 at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
