Electoral Officer Dismisses Objections To Harbhajan, Shukla, And Bhat Nominations

Disputes had previously arisen within the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) and Goa Cricket Association (GCA), with complaints filed against their representatives, Daljit Singh and Rohan Gauns Dessai respectively, regarding the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and BCCI elections.

It has now come to light that objections were raised against the nominations of Harbhajan Singh from the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), Rajeev Shukla from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), and Raghuram Bhat from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). AK Joti, the BCCI electoral officer, reviewed the complaints and dismissed them after verification.

Objections were also made against Pranav Amin from the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) and Nabam Vivek from the Arunachal Cricket Association, which were similarly rejected. Overall, 35 state associations sent representatives, with seven facing objections.

Rakesh Handa, a life member of the PCA, claimed that Harbhajan Singh’s nomination was unconstitutional, citing his appointment as PCA’s ‘Chief Cricketing Advisor’ and an ongoing complaint before the Ombudsman. It was alleged that holding both positions created a conflict of interest.

BCCI Electoral Officer Dismisses Complaints Against Harbhajan, Confirms Shukla’s Re-Election

Amarjit Singh, PCA president, clarified that Harbhajan’s advisory role is honorary, and after reviewing the facts, Joti dismissed the complaint. In the case of the UPCA, its CEO Ankit Chatterjee provided clarifications about Shukla’s nomination. Joti confirmed that the nomination process was properly completed, allowing Shukla to be re-elected as vice-president.

For the KSCA, concerns were raised over Bhat’s eligibility due to a criminal case linked to the June 4 RCB-Chinnaswamy incident. After receiving a response from KSCA CEO Shubhendu Ghosh, Joti rejected the objection, allowing Bhat to assume the role of treasurer.

GCA president Vipul Phadke challenged Rohan Dessai’s eligibility, alleging his nomination was not authorized. Joti found the application complete and dismissed Phadke’s claims. Similarly, objections regarding Daljit Singh’s eligibility in the HCA and Pranav Amin’s qualifications to represent the BCA were also dismissed by the electoral officer.
