Indian pacer Mohammed Shami picked up three for 28 and played his part in bowling England out for a mere 183 on day of the first Test in Trent Bridge. Jasprit Bumrah was the most successful bowler picking up 4/46. Shardul Thakur picked up couple of wickets including the big wicket of Joe Root and Mohammed Siraj picked up a wicket as well. Indian openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma then ensured that India lost no wickets on day 1 as they scored 21.
Meanwhile, after the first day’s play, Shami spoke at the press conference saying that the Indian team was in a good position after dismissing the opposition for 183.
We Are In Good Position: Mohammed Shami
“Obviously because 183 as per me we should make a good score and take the lead. We are in a good position, because any team you bowl out for 183 at its home is a good performance,” Shami said at the post-day press conference, when asked whether the visitors had an upper hand.
The Indian speedster further said that the Indian openers will need to focus on the first hour on day 2 to help India get a good score.
“Our first innings, the bowling part is over. Our batting part is left. I will say only one thing, you need to play the first hour with caution, because you should not lose your focus, be in control, so the first thing is to achieve this score and then think about the lead. The main focus will be to score 183 and after that whatever comes, the Bengal speedster added.
Earlier on day 1, Virat Kohli lost his 35th toss as India’s Test captain. It was an eventful day for India on the field with the DRS drama. Twice Kohli got the DRS call correct, after losing one early in the game. It was Rishabh Pant who persuaded him to take the first one and Shami and Shardul Thakur combined to force him to take the second.
India still trail by 162 runs as they look forward to the second day in Nottingham.
